As part of the SMS-RO-UA project (ROUA00136), funded by the European Union under the Interreg NEXT Romania-Ukraine Programme 2021-2027, Odesa State Agrarian University hosted an online seminar for stakeholders on emerging diseases and preparedness for cross-border epidemics.
The event brought together a wide range of stakeholders – over 20 organizations from various sectors. Participants included international partners from the Czech Republic, Spain and Bulgaria, representatives of local government and executive authorities (Odesa Regional State Administration), sectoral agencies (Main Directorate of the State Service for Food Safety and Consumer Protection in Odesa Region), research institutions (institutes of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine, Research Institute of One Health), higher education institutions (NULES, Sumy NAU, Bila Tserkva NAU and others), veterinary clinics, non-governmental organizations and business representatives.
Topics discussed during the seminar:
- Cross-border epidemics in the current context
- First project results and joint research on emerging diseases
- State control over animal health and welfare in accordance with EU legislation
The event contributed to:
- Raising awareness about the EU-supported project and engaging key stakeholders
- Building a sustainable partnership ecosystem to ensure long-term effectiveness of the initiative
- Expanding citizens’ understanding of the importance of their active cooperation as project stakeholders
- Deepening competence in preventive strategies for cross-border infectious animal diseases
- Mastering current Ukrainian national legislation and European legal regulations in veterinary medicine and animal welfare protection
The project is being implemented between June 4, 2025, and December 3, 2026, and has a total value of € 418.063,41, of which € 376.257,06 is funding provided by the European Union through the Interreg VI-A NEXT Romania-Ukraine Programme 2021- 2027. As a partner, total Odesa State Agrarian University eligible budget is € 144.748,80.
