OSAU is a part of the consortium within the Interreg NEXT Black Sea Basin Program co-funded by the EU in the project named “Less vulnerability, more adaptability – pilot remote sensing for the restoration of green zones in the coastal and urban areas of the Black Sea region” (MoreAdaptBSB, Project ID: BSB00479).

The project started on July 26, 2024, and will last for 30 months. Since that period, OSAU has conducted preparational work on enhancing transboundary cooperation for increasing the regional readiness and adaptability to climate change-related hazards and began the respective activities on the national level.

There are two main activities in the project:

1.1. Joint development of a remote-sensing-based methodology for assessing the resilience and vulnerability of coastal and urban areas to climate change-related hazards.

1.2. Application of nature-based solutions for increasing the adaptability of the most vulnerable areas.

Within activity 1.1, OSAU worked on the availability of existing resources to collect the necessary data and methods of analysis for creating a remote-sensing-based methodology for assessing the resilience and vulnerability of coastal and urban areas in Ukraine’s project area to climate change-related hazards.

Within activity 1.2, OSAU conducted an analysis of the existing state of sites in the Odesa region, where nature-based solutions will be applied to increase their adaptability potential. A list of necessary permits and other documents for investment has also been prepared.

OSAU conducted research and communication with stakeholders – local public authorities, regional public authorities, national public authorities, higher education and research organizations, and private interested entities, including NGOs.

On November 5-6, 2024, OSAU participated in the project kick-off meeting in Poligiros (Chalkidiki, Greece).

The consortium is working fruitfully on the implementation of four main outputs:

  • Organizations cooperating in MoreAdaptBSB.
  • A web tool that visualizes different categories of vulnerability of urban areas and coasts from the perspective of climate change adaptation.
  • Knowledge exchange groups & Living Lab.
  • New adaptive and resilient landscapes integrated into citizens’ daily lives.

As part of MoreAdaptBSB, we are dedicated to enhancing the resilience of communities and ecosystems in the Black Sea region against climate change hazards. Through innovation and collaboration, we are paving the way for a sustainable future.

Our mission is to:

  • Assess climate vulnerabilities to understand the risks.
  • Implement nature-based solutions to restore and protect vital green spaces.
  • Promote cross-border collaboration and knowledge sharing for improved preparedness.

Together, we’re building a greener, more adaptable future for the Black Sea region.
