On April 17-23, 2024 the Head of the Multidisciplinary Laboratory of Veterinary Medicine, 
Assistant of the Department of Infectious Pathology, Biosafety and Veterinary-Sanitary Inspection of Prof. V. Ya. Atamas Inna Zhunko and Docent of the Department of Physiology, Pathophysiology and Biochemistry, Senior Laboratory Technician of the Multidisciplinary Laboratory of Veterinary Medicine Oksana Zelenina visited the University of Messina (Italy). The purpose of the visit was participation in academic mobility (Staff Mobility for Training) under the Erasmus+ program.
The OSAU representatives got acquainted with the activities of the Faculty of Veterinary Sciences of the Italian University, had a meeting with the head of the faculty, visited the laboratories of food microbiology, morphology and histology, molecular biology, animal dissection room, skill labs, learnt how the educational process is organized and how the System of Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCR) is implemented. Also, the Ukrainian researchers had the opportunity to work in the university library, study the modern base of scientific periodicals and see old editions.
The Italian colleagues acquainted the academic mobility participants with the work of the Department of Parasitology, department’s museum, arrangement of classrooms for practical training, ELISA and PCR diagnostic laboratories.
The opportunity to directly participate in laboratory-practical research was provided: microbiological analysis of cheese and fish quality, as well as pollen analysis of orange honey and analysis of the presence of mycotoxins in food products.
The visit to the University Clinic was very substantive. The OSAU representatives had the opportunity to talk to the staff and get acquainted with: reception, examination rooms, surgery, intensive care unit, infectious, diagnostic and inpatient department, laboratory.
During the working meeting with the staff of the Department of Parasitology, responsible for the accreditation of the Faculty of Veterinary Sciences, information about the European Association of Establishments for Veterinary Education (EAEVE) and the accreditation procedure was received, and a range of issues regarding the possibilities of further cooperation were discussed.
The Ukrainian researchers also took part in a conference on veterinary pharmacology and toxicology, visited a zoo yard and mini-farms. By the academic mobility results a preliminary agreement was reached on the continuation of cooperation, in particular, conducting guest lectures online.
The implementation of the program is the first practical result of realization of the Interinstitutional Agreement on academic mobility under the ERASMUS + program between the University of Messina and OSAU.
