AlgaeRevive Project Team Completed Stakeholder Survey: 147 Respondents Shared Their Views on Algae Utilization

In the framework of the project “Harnessing Algae Power for Pollution Reduction and Blue Growth” (project acronym – AlgaeRevive, project code – BSB00091) within the framework of the Interreg NEXT Black Sea Basin Programme, financed by the European Union, OSAU has successfully completed a stakeholder survey.

About the Survey

In September 2025, Odesa State Agrarian University conducted a comprehensive stakeholder survey aimed at gathering insights, opinions, and expectations from professionals, practitioners, and representatives of relevant sectors who are directly or indirectly involved in environmental sector and can be users of the Algae K-Hub platform.

Information about the opportunity and importance of participating in the survey was actively disseminated among a wide range of potential participants through various communication channels. Thanks to systematic efforts to inform the target audience, 147 respondents representing different types of organizations and economic sectors participated in the study.

Key Survey Results

High Environmental Awareness: Respondents demonstrated strong awareness of Black Sea ecological challenges and algae bloom problems, providing a solid foundation for project engagement.

Interest in Technological Solutions: Significant interest in AI-powered monitoring tools and willingness to test technological solutions was recorded, indicating excellent adoption potential for project outputs.

Economic Development: The overwhelming majority supports algae utilization if it contributes to both economic and ecological development, which fully aligns with project objectives.

Capacity Building Needs: Limited awareness of EU funding opportunities and varying knowledge of algae applications were identified, pointing to significant potential for educational activities.

Strong Engagement Potential: Respondents expressed considerable interest in participating in project events, creating an excellent foundation for stakeholder networking and knowledge dissemination.

About the Project

The AlgaeRevive project is being implemented from September 3, 2024, to March 2, 2027. The total project value is €1,470,899.04, of which €1,329,809.13 is funding provided by the European Union through the Interreg NEXT Black Sea Basin Programme. As a partner, Odesa State Agrarian University’s eligible budget is €219,564.00.

The overall objective of the AlgaeRevive project is to create a sustainable and innovative ecosystem for algae research, innovation, and industrial uptake in the Black Sea region. The project aims to leverage the potential of algae as a solution for pollution reduction, particularly in the context of marine ecosystems, while also exploring their potential for various industrial applications.

The project addresses the challenges of pollution, economic diversification, and research capacity building through three main approaches:

  • Creation of the Black Sea Algae Knowledge Hub
  • Mapping and monitoring algae communities using AI-based tools
  • Pilot Activities for Industrial Uptake

The survey results confirm strong project relevance and indicate excellent potential for successful implementation and stakeholder adoption of project outputs.

OSAU is grateful to the EU and the project consortium for the opportunity to make a significant contribution to algae cultivation and marine pollution reduction.
