LAUNCH OF A TRANSBOUNDARING PROJECT

ENSURING SUSTAINABLE PRODUCTION AND IMPLEMENTATION OF GOOD CATTLE BREEDING PRACTICES IN FARMS IN ROMANIA, THE REPUBLIC OF MOLDOVA AND THE BORDER REGION OF UKRAINE

This project is funded by the EUROPEAN UNION.

Joint governing body: Ministry of Regional Development and Public Administration

Main goal: improving economic performance in transboundary areas through coordination and long-term modernization of the agricultural sector.

Specific objectives :

  • Creation of a single network of monitoring centers for the control of livestock products, both quantitatively and qualitatively, in the three partner countries;
  • Conducting joint  transboundary studies related to the keeping and breeding of cattle in the three partner countries;
  • Development and joint implementation of software – tools for milk and meat production control;
  • Construction of  2 pilot farms for quantitative and qualitative assessments in Romania and the Republic of Moldova;
  • Conducting a training / information / dissemination campaign for stakeholders in all regions.

Project budget ( 22 months of implementation)

Total: 2,621,122.00 EUR (28,360,802.15 UAH)

Financing by EU.: 2,359,009.80 EUR (90%)

MEASURES
Measure 1. Creation of a general implementation team according to the schedule
Measure 2. Establishment of three monitoring centers for qualitative and quantitative monitoring of cattle products in three partner countries
Measure 3. Carrying out transboundary research on cattle breeding in three partner countries
Measure 4. Design and joint implementation in three centers of software for monitoring the quality of livestock products, as well as to ensure data exchange
Measure 5. Construction of two pilot farms for quantitative and qualitative evaluation, in Romania and the Republic of Moldova

150 pastoralists (50/5 / country-partner)

15 representatives of  food industry (5/country -partner)

15 representatives of professional associations (5/ country-partner)

15 representatives from the authority

15 representatives of academic staff of higher education (5 / country – partner)

5 people hired on a pilot farm in Yasy

3 people hired in a laboratory in Yasy

Participants after the project:

farmers from neighboring areas of the partner-countries

bachelors, masters and postgraduate students from  three universities

researchers and teaching staff from three countries

food industry enterprises from three regions

customers wishing to purchase safe animal products from three countries

Tangible impact

The establishment of networks centres related with  livestock products monitoring both quantitative and qualitative in three partner-countries and software development to quantify the milk and beef qualities to be used in all three regions;

To assist project participants in accessing convenient and modern means of controlling and improving livestock products for extensive training researches.

To increase the level of knowledge related to modern technologies in livestock and processing through trainings, seminars, study visits, good management practices, portal;

To create the best practices model for farmers through farms to be built in Yasy and Chisinau.  They serve as research bases to improve livestock production and provide input to ACS in Odessa, focused on food processing.

EXPECTED BENEFITS:

1) improvement of transboundary infrastructure concerning  zootechnics

3) monitoring centers for quantitative and qualitative control of livestock products, 2 farms in Yasy and Chisinau);

2) increasing  the quality and safety of livestock products for consumers;

3) supporting  the development of scientific and technological capabilities of researches related with  sustainable livestock products production;

4) raising awareness of sustainable livestock products production for all stakeholders and establishing a mutual base for cooperation (data exchange, training, value creation, technology transfer from academic to productive sphere.

DISSEMINATION OF RESULTS:

The multiplier effect of the action is proportional to the number of participants.

 Its components are:

-software created in the project, free access within the portal

-three centers for assessing the quality of milk and beef

-other materials created within the project:

* user software instructions

* handbook on modern good practice

* materials on implementation and advertising.

– press conferences organized in three regions, at the beginning and at the end of the project.

-press-release that gives the latest news concerning project’s implementation.

The project can be adopted by other similar institutions and can be extended to other areas of research  in  agro- and zootechnical fields.
