Our Planet, Our Responsibility: Protecting the Environment for a Better Future

On March 19, 2025, numerous faculty members, researchers, and students from Odesa State Agrarian University took part in an ecological event organized under the international project “Less vulnerability, more adaptability – pilot remote sensing assisted restoration of green spaces in coastal and urban areas within the Black sea region” (MoreAdaptBSB) co-funded by the EU Interreg NEXT (Interreg VI-B) Black Sea Basin Programme.

As part of global efforts to combat climate change and promote environmental sustainability, the project focuses on tree planting to restore ecosystems, boost biodiversity, and support sustainable livelihoods in local communities.

Project goals and ongoing activities – carried out in partnership with organizations from Bulgaria, Greece, Romania, and Ukraine – were presented by Andrii Maiev, Associate Professor of the Department of Social and Humanitarian Sciences. The keynote speaker, Mrs. Liliia Hrychulevych, head of the NGO “VRUNA” and member of the “Black Sea Women’s Club,” delivered an inspiring talk on the crucial role trees play in mitigating climate change. Trees absorb carbon dioxide, reduce air pollution, and provide vital habitats for countless species. Through tree planting, we are taking concrete action towards a healthier and more sustainable planet.

A key focus of the event was the environmental challenges facing Southern Ukraine, particularly the Odesa region. Due to climate change, the area is experiencing soil degradation and desertification, marked by reduced rainfall, rising temperatures, water body degradation, and loss of biodiversity.

The event sparked meaningful dialogue among academics and students on how we can all contribute to addressing these pressing ecological issues. Together, we are building a global movement toward a greener, more resilient future.

Join us in making a difference. Be part of the change!
