CIHEAM BARI AND OSAU SIGNED A MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING

1 AUGUST 2025 — BARI (ITALY) / ODESA (UKRAINE)

The International Centre for Advanced Mediterranean Agronomic Studies – Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Bari (CIHEAM Bari) and Odesa State Agrarian University (OSAU) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding, establishing a framework for long-term cooperation in the fields of education, science and development.

CIHEAM Bari is the Italian branch of the intergovernmental organization CIHEAM, which brings together 13 Mediterranean countries and works on issues of sustainable agriculture, food security, climate change adaptation, development of organic farming, fishing and aquaculture. The Institute provides postgraduate training, conducts applied research and implements international projects in more than 40 countries, including Ukraine ( Pro.UKR project in the Odesa region).

The Memorandum aims to foster cooperation in the following areas:

  • Joint educational, cultural, and scientific activities (including internship and mobility under Erasmus+);
  • Pre-graduate internship for Ukrainian students, as well as technical and scientific cooperation within CIHEAM Bari projects in Ukraine;
  • Joint fundamental and applied research;
  • Exchange of teachers, staff and researchers;
  • Organization of conferences, symposia and round tables;
  • Exchange of publications and research results.

The signing of the Memorandum opens up new opportunities for OSAU students, teachers and researchers: participation in international programs, internships, joint research projects and initiatives for the introduction of sustainable agricultural practices in the region.

This cooperation will contribute to strengthening the institutional capacity of the university, integrating the Ukrainian scientific community into European network and implementing projects aimed at restoring and developing the agrifood sector of Ukraine.
