HISTORY OF THE DEPARTMENT OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGIES
Scientific-pedagogical and methodical activity of the Economic Cybernetics Department, in 2009 renamed the Department of Information Systems and Technologies, and in 2021 restored under the name of the Department of Information Technologies is inextricably linked with the history of the Faculty of Economics and Odesa State Agrarian University in general. The formation of future professionals begins with the study of economic and mathematical methods and information systems as well as technologies for information processing.
The existence of the modern Department is connected with the long-term activity of the outstanding scientist-economist, Doctor of Economics, Professor, Honored Scientist of Ukraine Matvii Braslavets. He was the first to work on the problem of implementing economic and mathematical methods and electronic computers in agriculture. In 1960, this highly respected professor initiated the creation of the Faculty of Economics in Odesa Agricultural Institute and became its first dean. He was a pioneer in the implementation of economic and mathematical methods of data processing and the use of electronic computers in agricultural production. In 1962, a problem laboratory for the application of economic and mathematical methods and computer technologies was organized and a computer center was established, in which planning and economic problems were solved according to the developed models.
In 1965, M. Braslavets created the first among the agricultural universities in the USSR Department of Economic Cybernetics, the Head of which he remained until the last days of his life.
In total, the scientist wrote and published more than 60 research papers on economics. He prepared 9 doctors and 67 Ph.D. of Economics.
From the day of the creation of the Economic Cybernetics Department until the last days of life (1976) M. Braslavets headed the Department. Later he was replaced by Professor V. Sukhorukov, Associate Professor V. Lushchuk and Senior Lecturer V. Bobyk.
Senior Lecturer I. Milan, A. Zhurzhenko, Associate Professor M. Syzonenko and Associate Professor H. Tykhomyrova headed the Department of Mechanized Information Processing.
The computer center as an educational and scientific-technical base of the Department and the Faculty of Economics was also constantly enriched with new models of computer equipment. O. Demets, Yu. Kudriavtsev, M. Pomohaiev headed the computer center at different times.
In 1988, by order of the Odesa Agricultural Institute rector, the Departments of Economic Cybernetics and Machine Processing of Information were merged into one under the name “Economic Cybernetics”. Professor V. Sukhorukov, one of the most talented students of the outstanding M. Braslavets, was elected the head of the department. He worked at the Department of Economic Cybernetics from its very formation until August 2009.
Since September 2007, the Department of Economic Cybernetics was headed by Professor T. Tintulova, who enjoyed a high reputation among the University teaching staff and students.
Subsequently, the Department was headed by Professor Vasyl Popovych (2013) and Associate Professor Oleksii Diachenko (2014-2016).
After the restoration of the Department of Information Technologies in 2021, Professor Oleksii Diachenko was elected the Head of the Department.
